2007-2008 Call for Nominations
University Distinguished Lecture Series
The University Distinguished Lecture Series honors two senior faculty members who are distinguished for their research, creative, or scholarly work. Lectures may focus on the faculty member's work, presented so that it is of general interest to the broader university community, or may focus on other matters of interest to an academic audience on which the faculty member has reflected and has wisdom to share. These lectures, highlights of the academic year, are followed by receptions and are open to the public.
Any member of the university community, including students, staff, faculty, and alumni, is eligible to submit nominations. The President's and Provost's Advisory Committee will select two faculty members to present University Distinguished Lectures during the 2008-2009 academic year. The Office of Academic Affairs awards $5,000 for the lecturer to designate to an academic program of her or his choice.
Nomination packets should include:
- a letter of nomination that details the rationale for the nomination, including discussion of the nominee's stature in her or his academic field;
- four additional letters of endorsement from individuals well-qualified to comment not only on the nominee's standing in his or her field but also on his or her ability to deliver a lecture that will be interesting and informative to an audience with diverse academic backgrounds; and
- the nominee's current curriculum vitae.
Please send six copies of the nomination packet, no later than Friday, January 11, 2008, to:
