Key Initiatives
Joseph A. Alutto
Executive Vice President and Provost
Welcome to the website of the Office of Academic Affairs at The Ohio State University. Our charge is to create and support an environment that advances our institutional mission of achieving international distinction in education, scholarship, and public service.
This year, to continue and accelerate our progress in academic programming, faculty development, and student academic affairs, my colleagues and I will bring special attention to a number of academic priorities, which include:
- Developing processes to support the conversion to semesters;
- Increasing the effectiveness of student advising support;
- Expanding the effectiveness of student financial aid support;
- Assessing and improving career service activities for students;
- Developing programs to further advocate faculty for national honors and recognitions;
- Enhancing our success in federal and private research funding;
- Providing greater support for faculty and staff development;
- Increasing the numbers of high ability minority and women students, as well as faculty, at all levels;
- Working closely with the Chancellor of the Board of Regents on new and expanded initiatives such as the Third Frontier;
- Increasing coordination between faculty units and academic programs, with a focus on the life and environmental sciences; and
- Planning for continued growth in an uncertain economic environment.
All of these activities will underpin and promote Ohio State’s six overarching aims: forging One Ohio State; putting students first in access to academic excellence; developing faculty and staff talent; enhancing our research prominence; expanding outreach and collaboration with the communities we serve; and ensuring operating and financial soundness and simplicity.
I invite you to explore our website to learn more about these efforts, this office, my colleagues and me, and our unrelenting focus on academic excellence at Ohio State.
Sincerely,
