A Message from Martha Garland, Vice Provost and Dean Office of Enrollment Services and Undergraduate Education and SIS Project Sponsor

Professional Admissions component of New SIS is implemented!

As of June 2nd, applications for admittance to Professional programs beginning in the Summer, 2009 and beyond at OSU are being accepted into the new Student Information System (SIS).   This marks the first phase of the implementation of the new system with many others scheduled between now and the summer of 2009, when all functionality for the new integrated SIS will be available for use.
The foundation for the Admissions implementation was prepared over the Memorial Day weekend when the SIS project team successfully completed its Admissions Move To Production for the first phase (Alpha) of the new SIS. The Move to Production involved converting all current and archived biographical student information (name, address, phone number, name.n) from the legacy system into PeopleSoft. The conversion of over 800,000 plus student records from 1974 to present began on Thursday, May 22 and was completed on Monday, May 26, five hours ahead of the planned schedule. In short, the Alpha Move To Production was a smooth landing. Congratulations to SIS Project team and the Admissions Staff, as well as all the advisory groups who worked extremely hard to make our first implementation a reality.

Professional Admissions Update

from Rick Termeer, SIS Project Director

To date, we have not received any applications from prospective dental and medical students, which is not unusual for the first days of acceptance. We expect to see them start coming in the next week or so. In the interim, we have been able to run many of the key programs that support this process to ensure that all functionality is working and ready for acceptance of these applications. This includes:

  • Loading of GMAT, TOEFL, and GRE test scores
  • Generating letters to applicants
  • Associating a relationship (student, employee, etc) with a person
  • On-line search/match process
  • On-line pre-req evaluation for professional programs

As was reported last month, Training for the new SIS was held for Graduate/Professional Admissions office staff in May, while training for UA/FYE staff began in late May and continues through the summer. During the introduction sessions, central users are receiving their BuckeyePass security tokens, which will allow them to access the SIS system using
2-Factor authentication. Distributed users will receive a BuckeyePass token during training and/or will receive a separate notification from the SIS Team regarding dates and times for token distribution.

Now...on to our next implementation
