How do I read my Statement of Account?
Instructions on interpreting your student account information are available in the Student Center Reference Guide at https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/studentcenter/sf/sf_account_inquiry.html.

How do I interpret the information on the main Student Center page?
Instructions are available in the Student Center Reference Guide at https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/studentcenter/student_center_picture.html. Click the area of the Student Center that you wish to learn more about.

How do I sign up for TOPP (Tuition Option Payment Plan)?
Instructions for signing up for TOPP are available in the Student Center Reference Guide at https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/studentcenter/sf/sf_account_inquiry.html#paymentplan.

Additional information on TOPP:

Why am I being charged a Non-Resident fee when I’m an Ohio resident?
The most frequent cause of this fee, if you are a male student, is a missing Selective Service Registration number.
If you are a male student, please contact the Student Consolidated Services Center at (614) 292-0300 or scsc@osu.edu to provide your Selective Service information. Refer to the Selective Service Registration and In-State Tuition page for more information on state and federal requirements for Selective Service registration.

If this requirement does not apply to you, or you have other issues regarding residency, please contact a residency counselor at (614) 292-0300 or scsc@osu.edu.

Who placed the hold on my account and what do I do about it?
Instructions for viewing holds are available in the Student Center Reference Guide at https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/studentcenter/general/holds.html. Refer to the “Instructions” section for information on how to resolve the hold. Note that Ohio State personnel may refer to Holds as "Negative Service Indicators"--this is just another term for Holds.

How do I set up direct deposit for account refunds?
Instructions for setting up direct deposit through SallieMae are available in the Student Center Reference Guide at https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/studentcenter/sf/sf_account_refund.html.

I tried to add or change my direct deposit information but the system won’t let me save it.
This usually occurs when you have previously entered account information; the process for adding a new account or changing account information is different from setting up direct deposit for the first time. Refer to the Account Refund (Direct Deposit) page in the Student Center Reference Guide for full instructions.

What is the deadline for my Student Health Insurance to be paid? Will my coverage be dropped if I don't pay by that date?
The Summer term deadline for payment of student fees is July 7 for all students except Law (for Law students, the Summer deadline has already passed). On that date, the Office of the University Bursar will follow standard procedures to pursue payment of your past-due account. Student Health Insurance is not automatically dropped for non-payment.

How does my Graduate Fee Authorization, Fellowship, Student Health Insurance subsidy, or payroll deduction appear on my Statement of Account?

Refer to Graduate Fee Authorizations and Your SIS Statement of Account to learn how Fee Authorizations and Student Health Insurance appear on your Statement of Account.

What information is available via the Student Center in the SIS?
The Student Center is a student’s access point to class searches and class details, academic information, student financial aid, student financials account information including billing and payments, holds, any To Do lists (used, for example, by Student Financial Aid, to list the documentation needed to complete an application), the weekly schedule, and contact information.. Full step-by-step procedures are available in the Student Center Reference Guide, https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/studentcenter/.

Is the Student Center replacing Buckeye Link?
No; it works hand-in-hand with Buckeye Link to provide web services to students. Visit Buckeye Link first to sign into the Student Center (see question 4, below). Many frequently-used services are available directly from either Buckeye Link or the main page of the SIS Student Center.

How can I get to the Student Center?
The Student Center is linked from the Current Students page of Buckeye Link, buckeyelink.osu.edu. Simply click the Student Self-Service Center link and then sign in using your OSU Internet Username (name.#) and Password. In addition, many student web services are linked directly from Buckeye Link: these are “inside” the Student Center, but you bypass the main Student Center page when accessing them.

What password do I use to access the Student Center?
Use your OSU Internet Username (name.#). Refer to https://acctmgt.service.ohio-state.edu/Password.html if you have questions about your OSU Internet Username and Password.

What if I don’t know/forgot my password?
Refer to https://acctmgt.service.ohio-state.edu/Password.html if you have questions about your OSU Internet Username and Password.

Do I have to change my password periodically?
No, but you are free to change your password whenever you wish. For more information about your OSU Internet Username and Password, refer to https://acctmgt.service.ohio-state.edu/Password.html.

How do I get help with SIS?
There are many resources available to provide support for SIS:

1.

Your first resource is the Student Center Reference Guide available at
https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/studentcenter/.
It contains step-by-step instructions on how to use all the main features of the Student Center.

2.

As with Buckeye Link today, if you have questions about specific services, you can contact the appropriate university office (Registrar, Financial Aid, Bursar, or your college office).

3.

If you have technical problems with the Student Center itself, contact 8Help.

4.

If you have general questions, comments, or suggestions regarding the Student Information System, send an email to sis@osu.edu.

I used to open multiple tabs in my Internet browser so I could search for classes in one window and enroll in another. When I try to do that in SIS, I get an error and it tells me to “return to the current page.” How can I open multiple tabs or windows in SIS?
Multiple tabs/windows are not supported in Self-Service pages (including the Student Center and Faculty Center).

When I try to open a page in the Student Center, I hear a funny noise and nothing happens.
You may have a pop-up blocker installed on your computer. If so, you don’t have to turn off the pop-up blocker; you just have to configure it to allow pop-ups for this particular site. Internet Explorer has a default pop-up blocker that often interferes with SIS; click the yellow information bar at the top of the page and select “Always Allow” from the pop-up menu. Other browsers and toolbar add-ons may include their own pop-up blockers; most have a convenient method to add trusted sites.

How can my advisor help me when I have questions about the Student Center?
Advisors have a similar view of your record in their Student Services Center and can help you with you questions. Be patient:  remember that advisors, too, will be learning the complexities of a new system.

How do I move around in the Student Center?
Use the dropdown box located in the upper right or lower left corner. Make your selection and then click the Go button.  You may move from tab to tab by clicking on the tab at the top of the page or use the links at the bottom.

I heard that faculty will be able to post assignment grades in SIS. Is that taking the place of Carmen?
Faculty will have the option to post assignment grades in either Carmen or the SIS Gradebook.

Will students be able to see grades by assignment in the SIS?
If a faculty member chooses to use the SIS Gradebook and marks the assignment as visible to the student, the student can click on Assignments in the Student Center to check his or her Gradebook information. If your assignment grades are posted in Carmen, you can access them in Carmen as you do now.

How do I know if a class is open, waitlisted, or closed?
Each class links to a Class Detail page that includes a Status indicator with a color code. The Status indicator indicates whether a class is open (Graphic), waitlisted (Graphic), or closed(Graphic). Refer to https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/studentcenter/sr/sr_enroll_classes.html for more information on enrolling for classes.

I don’t have an enrollment appointment. What should I do?
You should contact your college office.

I used to be able to search all classes in a department, but the SIS won’t let me see all classes in a department at the same time.
Due to performance constraints, it is not possible to search the SIS for all classes in a department when the number of “hits” exceeds 300. You can set broad limits by searching for classes greater than / equal to a certain number (i.e. all classes at or above the 400 level) or less than / equal to a given number (i.e. all classes at or below the 300 level). Refer to https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/studentcenter/sr/sr_course_catalog.html for more information on searching for classes.

What happened to the course number suffix? (D=distance learning, B=bridge course, etc.)?
Instruction Mode takes the place of course number suffixes in SIS. You can search by Instruction Mode using the Additional Search Criteria within the main Class Search page. Instruction Mode it is also visible from the Class Detail page for each class.

When I search for a class, I see all sections of that class (Recitation, Lecture, Lab, etc.). How do I know which one to enroll in? How can I tell which sections are connected to which (i.e. which Recitation goes with which Lecture)?
Component types (lecture, lab, recitation) are linked.  Selecting one will autoenroll you in the other corresponding components. If you must separately select a component related to your initial selection, you will be prompted to do so.

Associated components are grouped together when the class search results are returned.  You can confirm your selection in the next enrollment step, where all components are listed.

Refer to
https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/studentcenter/sr/sr_course_catalog.html for more information on enrolling in classes.

Why do only 3 classes show up when I search for classes?
This is a system default; click View All Sections in the blue header bar of the Class Search Results to see all sections that match your search criteria. You may also scroll through the results by using the left and right arrows. Refer to https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/studentcenter/sr/sr_course_catalog.html for more information on enrolling in classes.

I used to see all the class availabilities (i.e. number of seats available) at once; how can I see them in SIS?
SIS displays the Status indicator in the initial Class Search Results; this informs you whether a class is Open, Closed, or Waitlisted. To see the number of seats available, click the Section link to view the Class Details. Refer to https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/studentcenter/sr/sr_course_catalog.html for more information on enrolling in classes.

How do I access my Shopping Cart before my enrollment window opens? I’d like to line up all my classes ahead of time and then enroll in them all at once when my window opens.
The Shopping Cart is unavailable before your enrollment window opens.

I’m viewing the wrong term. How do I switch terms?
Many functions begin with a “Select Term” window that limits your current view to a specific term. Many pages have a “Change Institution or Term” button that allows you to easily select a different term, or you can return to the main Student Center page and navigate back to the function where you began, so you can select a different term.

How do I know my position on the waitlist?
Go to your Class Schedule and click Show Waitlisted Classes where you will see the classe(s) for which you are wait listed and your position.

What do the symbols mean when I try to add a class?
A green checkmark indicates the class was successfully added and the red X indicates the class was not added.

Do I have to add all my classes at once, or can I do them one at a time so I have a better chance of getting in before they fill up?
You can add your classes individually or as a group.

I received an error message when I registered but the message doesn’t give much information. How do I know what it really means?
Read the message closely for meaning.  Often, the class detail can help you to understand the requisites and other requirements you need to meet before you can enroll in the course.

How do I search for courses or classes that meet General Education Requirements (GECs)?
Use the Course Attribute and Course Attribute Value search fields, which are available in both Course Catalog Search and Class Search (expand the Additional Search Criteria section to view them in Class Search). Look up and select  “GEC” as the Course Attribute and then look up and select the appropriate requirement (“Historical Survey”, “Literature”, etc.) as the Course Attribute Value. Note that GECs vary across different majors and colleges, so make sure you verify your GEC choices with your advisor or college office. Refer to https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/search/course.html for more information on Course Search, or https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/search/class.html for more information on Class Search.

I have a form to waive requisites, time conflicts, etc.  What do I do now?
You should take the signed form to your college office for posting after your enrollment appointment has started.

I have instructor permission for a class.  Can I take that to my college office for posting prior to my enrollment appointment opening?
No, you cannot have permission pre-posted. You will need to take you form to your advisor after your enrollment appointment begins. If you have questions about the process in your college, contact your advisor.

I used to be prompted to enroll in Student Health Insurance when I registered for classes. Why doesn’t SIS ask me about insurance?
The Student Health Insurance selection process in SIS is separate from the registration process. Refer to https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/studentcenter/shi/shi_intro.html for more information about selecting Student Health Insurance.

I updated my address in the Student Center, but I’m still getting communications at my old address, OR I can’t change my address in the Student Center.
If you are a continuing student, you should continue to update your contact information in the existing system (using the Change Addresses link in Buckeye Link) until June, after which we transition from the existing system to SIS. This is a temporary solution to avoid issues with conflicting information, specifically related to Commencement.

How do I know what to do to resolve a Hold?
Click on the Hold and you will see additional details, including who to contact to resolve the hold.

I completed the admission condition on my To Do List, but it is still there. Why?
Admission conditions will be marked as complete in the Student Records Milestone section.

Who chose the blue color scheme for SIS?
SIS is based on a commercial software product and contains a number of delivered features, including the color theme. Changing these delivered features would require a substantial modification to the system, necessitating additional time and funding that were not part of the project budget. Changes to these delivered features could also create additional maintenance issues as the system is upgraded in the future.

Who came up with the green/yellow/blue color scheme for the Class Status?
SIS is based on a commercial software product and contains a number of delivered features, including the Class Status colors. Changing these delivered features would require additional time and funding that were not part of the project budget. Changes to these delivered features could also create additional maintenance issues as the system is upgraded in the future.

It is important to check the class detail for every class in which you enroll, so you can understand what you are signing up for—and ensure that the class will be what you expect. Under "Instruction Mode," you will find information that indicates whether a class is taught "In Person" (in a classroom with an instructor), or by "Distance Learning," or incorporates some other mode of learning. Selections include:

  • Clinic Field Experience
  • Distance Learning
  • Flexibly Scheduled
  • In Person
  • Video Taught
  • Workshop

Refer to https://assist-erp.osu.edu/sis/WebHelp/studentcenter/sr/sr_course_catalog.html for more information on instruction Mode.
