Undergraduate Education Leadership Announcements
It is with eager anticipation that I have returned home to The Ohio State University to serve in the role of vice provost for undergraduate studies and dean of undergraduate education. Many thanks to all for the warm welcome.
The purpose of this memo is share collaborative decisions about two leadership transitions. First, as Interim Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Planning Vern Granger recently announced, University Orientation and First Year Experience (UOFYE) will move under the umbrella of the Office of Undergraduate Education (UE). Effective January 1, 2018, Catherine P. Montalto, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Human Sciences, will serve as UOFYE’s director and faculty fellow in the Office of Undergraduate Education. In these roles, Dr. Montalto will coordinate efforts related to University Orientation and the First Year Experience programs to enhance our students’ success, particularly as they begin their educational journeys at Ohio State. Second, M. Susie Whittington, PhD, professor and director of undergraduate studies in the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership, agreed to serve as director of the Second-Year Transformational Experience Program (STEP). As STEP’s director, Dr. Whittington will coordinate STEP’s faculty endeavors with the Office of Undergraduate Education and Senior Vice President for Student Life Dr. Javaune Adams-Gaston to provide leadership to enhance students’ success as they continue working toward their degrees at Ohio State.
