Vice Provost for Academic Planning
W. Michael Sherman originally joined the Office of Academic Affairs as the vice provost for academic administration in January, 2005. Before that, he served as director of the School of Physical Activity and Educational Services in the College of Education where he was beginning his third four-year appointment. As director he had administrative responsibility for the Center for Special Needs Populations and the Center on Education and Training for Employment.
A professor of sport and exercise science, Vice Provost Sherman is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education.
His scholarship focuses on physical activity and carbohydrate metabolism and, more recently, on methods to measure physical activity for use in physical activity intervention studies.
He earned his B.S. degree at Ohio University, his M.S. at Ball State University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. He joined the Ohio State faculty in 1985.
