Overhauled Gen Ed program to begin autumn 2021

The University Senate has overwhelmingly approved the first major overhaul of Ohio State’s General Education curriculum since its creation more than 30 years ago. The university will now begin working on detailed implementation plans so that the new GE program can launch in Autumn Semester 2021, providing a cohesive academic foundation for a generation of future Buckeyes.

All faculty planning to march in the academic processional at summer commencement on Aug. 4 at the Schottenstein Center should notify their college or regional dean’s office by July 19. On commencement day, faculty registered to participate must be robed and assembled by 1:30 p.m. The ceremony begins at 2 p.m.

The Innovative Spaces program is a campus-wide initiative to foster transformational teaching and learning by providing targeted access to spaces designed for active learning. It encourages greater focus on active learning pedagogy and more deliberate utilization of physical classroom spaces. Application deadline for Innovative Spaces is Friday July 26, 2019

The Center for Clinical and Translational Science is presenting a mentoring workshop designed to develop faculty into successful research mentors to junior faculty, especially in the sciences and biomedical sciences. The training will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 29 and July 31 (must attend both sessions) in 240 Prior Hall.

In this evidence-based endorsement, participants will learn about persistent racial and social class achievement gaps in higher education and consider the ways in which a common practice may contribute to those gaps. Topics to be covered include information literacy, Decoding the Disciplines, Transparency in Learning & Teaching (TILT) etc. This will take place on August 12 - 14.
