Announcing the Office of Student Academic Success
I write to inform you that effective January 1, 2019, the Office of Student Academic Success replaced the units previously known as Enrollment Services and Undergraduate Education (ES and UE).
Under the direction of Vice Provost of Student Academic Success and Dean of Undergraduate Education Beth V. Hume, this new unit will further our progress in improving affordability, raising retention and graduation rates, and increasing the enrollment and academic success of underserved populations.
At my request in June of 2018, Dr. Hume, who was serving as vice provost for undergraduate studies and dean of Undergraduate Education, began working with her new leadership teams in ES and UE to merge the units and to create a collaborative and intentional system to strengthen the recruiting and academic success of a highly qualified, diverse student body.
Dr. Hume and her team worked for several months on the organizational design of the new unit, streamlining reporting structures, enhancing alignment with university strategic goals and leveraging synergies to better serve students, faculty and staff. This work has resulted in the Office of Student Academic Success, which you can read about in greater detail at osas.osu.edu.
Please join me in thanking Dr. Hume for her team’s visionary work. I look forward to working with her and OSAS to provide students with the tools and opportunities to thrive and succeed academically from the first point of contact throughout their entire academic journey.
