Buckeye Precollege apply

Application requirements

The Summer Institutes residential program is for high school students in grades 9 through 11 at the time of application (Spring 2024). Applications for 2024 are limited to US citizens, permanent residents, non-US students who attend a US high school on an F-1 visa, and DACA students. More information on applying can also be found on the FAQ page

The application deadline for Summer Institutes 2024 is March 1, 2024. Those interested in applying for financial assistance are encouraged to submit by this date. Applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis until early April 2024, or until all seats of the program are filled. Financial assistance may not be available in the rolling admissions period.

Applicants to the Summer Institutes residential program may request consideration for more than one course, but if admitted will attend just one course. You will be asked to rank your top choices on the application.

A complete application to the Summer Institutes residential program includes the following:

  • submitted application form
  • unofficial grade report/transcript from at least the past two years
  • receipt of at least one teacher recommendation
  • payment of the $50 application fee or fee waiver. Contact precollege@osu.edu to request a fee waiver.

Optional application components include:

  • scholarship request form
  • standardized test scores

For more information about program fees and available financial assistance for the Summer Institutes residential program, visit our Costs and Aid page.

Complete applications are reviewed holistically. If offered admission, an applicant is admitted into one course per session determined to be the best fit, taking into consideration applicant course preferences, overall suitability and preparation for the course, and available seats.

Applicants will be notified of our admissions decision on the notification date. Decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

The application for Summer Institutes 2024 will open in January 2024.

Summer Exploration offers courses for both middle and high school students. Middle school courses are open to current 7th and 8th graders (as of Spring 2024), and high school courses are open to current 9th, 10th, and 11th graders (as of Spring 2024).  This is a non-residential program, so applicants from outside of Ohio must provide their own accommodations in the Columbus area.

The application for Summer Exploration 2024 will open in January 2024. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and offers of admission will be sent within two weeks of submission. The application will close on April 1, 2024, or earlier if all seats are filled.

A complete application to Summer Exploration consists of:

  • submitted application form
  • unofficial grade report/transcript from at least the past two years
