International student employees status updates
In August, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) published a memorandum outlining changes in policy specific to, Unlawful Presence for Nonimmigrants in Academic Student (F), Exchange Visitor (J) and Vocational Student (M) Status. It is very important that supervisors and managers of international student employees be made aware of these updates to ensure that these students do not work more than 20 hours per week while school is in session. Failure to comply with this limitation of work hours could potentially result in the student being barred from re-entry to the U.S. for up to ten years. Please review the official USCIS notice and share this update with all those who may manage international student employees. (Note that the 20-hour per week limitation does not apply to J-1s in non-student categories – e.g., Research Scholars, Professors, etc.)

Health and wellness updates
Thank you for your ongoing support of our wellness initiatives. Ohio State is one of few organizations in a negative healthcare spend for our faculty and staff — most
are experiencing yearly increases. Investing in and promoting
a culture of wellbeing for your faculty, staff and students additionally results in better engagement, less absenteeism, and higher productivity and job satisfaction. Please consider providing your faculty/staff who are Buckeye Wellness Innovators with a small percentage of effort for their time.
They are doing impactful work in your promoting a culture of wellbeing.
Support from all of our leaders is so key to reaching our vision of being the healthiest university in the world.
PHA and biometric screenings
Please encourage your faculty and staff to complete their PHA and Biometric Screenings. They have until the end of November to complete the screenings.
Our completion percentage is running behind compared to last year, so your encouragement will be appreciated.
Health Athlete for Ohio State leaders
The next "health athlete" two-day workshop will be held on Dec. 6-7.
If you have not attended this energy management/wellness workshop, it is well worth your time.
Offered in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson, this is our version of the "corporate athlete" program.
Nearly 1,000 leaders, faculty and staff have gone through this program with wonderful and impactful outcomes.
Please consider attending and sending a few of your leaders. Contact Bern Melnyk with any questions. |

Ohio State is preparing to launch an Activity Baseline Survey on October 8 across the university and Wexner Medical Center to collect information on where HR, payroll, finance and supply chain/procurement activities are performed. The Enterprise Project is coordinating the survey with strong support from Provost McPheron and the project’s other executive sponsors. The survey will help shape the development of resources to support project-related changes. Please encourage your staff who have been asked to complete the survey. If you have questions, please reach out to your Senior Fiscal Officer, Senior HR Professional or email enterprise-project@osu.edu. |

BuckeyePass extends to Carmen Oct. 11
BuckeyePass multifactor authentication will begin protecting Carmen on Thursday, Oct. 11, during Autumn Break. At this time, BuckeyePass will also be enabled for Vita, which you and your faculty may be using to manage and track scholarly activity.
We recommend registering at least TWO devices/methods to log in, because devices may be lost, stolen or broken. Mobile devices are the easiest and most secure way to use BuckeyePass, but you can use a landline phone or key fob.
