News and updates for the Council of Deans at The Ohio State University
The Office of Academic Affairs - Deans Leadership Update

Career Roadmap, a job catalog and pay structure, will modernize talent and compensation practices to help attract and retain the Ohio State workforce when launched in Workday in January 2021. It also supports the operational excellence and resource stewardship goals in the university’s strategic plan. Career Roadmap is being developed carefully in several steps in collaboration with stakeholders.

Latest News:

  • This week, supervisors start reviewing how their direct reports were initially mapped in the first draft of Career Roadmap. The manager online learning sessions began on October 1.
  • The project team welcomes and expects robust feedback from supervisors in collaboration with the HR team to make the 2021 launch of Career Roadmap as accurate and successful as possible. Feedback from supervisors is an important early step in the mapping process.
  • HR Compensation is gathering pay data from national wage and salary surveys relevant to higher education, health systems and shared business operations. This part of the process is a preliminary step in updating the university’s salary structure.

What you need to do:

  • Consult with your Senior HR Partner as your unit’s resource for Career Roadmap.
  • Follow your unit’s process to provide feedback on how your direct reports are initially mapped in this first draft of Career Roadmap. You can confirm the mapping or suggest changes to your Senior HR Partner.
  • Encourage supervisors in your unit to participate.

Strategic enrollment planning

The Office of Student Academic Success will soon launch the strategic enrollment planning process for 2021 - 2026 to identify, evaluate and modify strategies and enrollment goals in light of our mission and internal and external forces. You may be invited to serve on subcommittees or work groups that will define key performance indicators, develop strategy and set enrollment goals. Among other things, we will consider demographic trends, employment forecasts, capacity, demand and finance. Contact Beth Hume with questions.

International Strategic Plan

Last spring, Ohio State launched an enterprise-wide planning process to reimagine its international role as a modern land-grant university. Chairs and vice-chairs have been appointed for five working groups and are in the process of selecting committee members representing a broad cross-section of the university. The international strategic plan, which builds on and complements the university’s Time and Change plan, is expected to be presented to President Drake and Provost McPheron in late spring. Pending their approval, the plan will be implemented beginning in summer 2020. The Office of Academic Affairs is developing a webpage on the international strategic planning process and will bring it online soon. Read more about the current status.
