Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Behavior Health mary.fristad@nationwidechildrens.org

I am Director of Academic Affairs & Research Development at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) Division of Child & Family Psychiatry and Big Lots Behavioral Health Services, as well as Emerita Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, Psychology, and Nutrition at the Ohio State University (OSU). Although new to this fulltime position at NCH, I have split my time between the OSU and NCH campuses for the past four years and have worked closely and effectively with my Co-PI, Dr. Axelson, and my Co-Is, Dr. Bridge and Ms. Bruns, during the past four years. I have been an active NIH-funded researcher for nearly 40 years, including serving as PI, or Co-PI, on multiple clinical trials. My research focuses on the assessment and treatment of mood disorders in youth. My h-index is 51 and my i10-index is 146. I have developed, tested, refined, and disseminated a family/CBT/evidence-based intervention for youth with depression and bipolar disorder, psychoeducational psychotherapy. Intensive Crisis Intervention (ICI) is closely aligned with the work I have done previously. I have over 200 publications, including a treatment manual, book for parents, and workbooks for therapists, parents, children, and adolescents with mood disorders. I conduct trainings internationally on assessing and treating childhood mood disorders. I am well prepared to serve as Co-PI on the second exploratory project, Intensive Crisis Intervention (ICI) for Adolescent Suicidal Behavior. I will assume leadership, along with Dr. Axelson, for the overall execution of this project and dissemination of findings. Similarly, I am well prepared to serve on the Executive Committee of the Administrative Core and as a co-leader for the Training in Prevention of Suicide (TiPS) program. I have held many leadership positions, including serving as president of two national professional organizations and Vice Chair of Research and Academic Affairs in the OSU Dept of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. I have mentored trainees at the graduate and post-graduate level who have gone on to faculty positions throughout the country, including Brown Univ, Univ Chicago, Lurie Children’s Hospital, Univ Cincinnati, Univ Delaware, Johns Hopkins, Univ Kansas, Univ, Kentucky, Univ Lancaster (England), Mayo Clinic, Univ New Orleans, and Ohio State.
