U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Ranking Analysis Tool
The counter-factual rank tool (CRT) is an Excel workbook that allows the user to answer "what if" questions about the overall US News rankings of National Universities, and about the Ohio State University's ranking in particular. By emulating the data and computational formulas used by US News, a close approximation of the actual rankings is obtained. The CRT then lets you move slider controls to change the weights used in the ranking formula, and/or change the performance of OSU in each component category. Although the CRT cannot be used to predict exact ranking positions, it gives a very good idea of the magnitude of the effects resulting from the two types of change.
