Kirwan Institute leadership announcement
I am pleased to announce that Beverly Vandiver, PhD, a professor in the College of Education and Human Ecology, has accepted the role of interim executive director of the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity. She will start Sept. 1.
In June, we shared the news that the Kirwan’s current director, Darrick Hamilton, would be returning to The New School in New York. He will conclude his Ohio State service at the end of the month.
Dr. Vandiver’s background as a professor of Human Development and Family Sciences and director of EHE’s Data Access and Analysis Core will serve her well in her interim role. She is dedicated to Kirwan’s mission of working “to create a just and inclusive society where all people and communities have opportunity to succeed.”
This call to action could not be more important as we respond to the inequalities laid bare by COVID-19, systemic racial injustice, and the senseless deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and many others. Kirwan plays a vital role in our campus community, across Columbus and nationwide.
Please join me in congratulating Beverly and thanking Darrick for his service.
