This newsletter for academic leaders is designed to share information of interest to the university community. During summer, we are publishing every other week.
Welcome Provost Gilliam
Executive Vice President and Provost Melissa L. Gilliam shared a message yesterday with faculty and graduate associates to introduce herself to the university community.
Her message emphasized her holistic approach to faculty life and the student experience at Ohio State. "I am thrilled to become a Buckeye, and I am eager to meet Ohio State students, faculty and staff over the coming months and years."
To learn more about Provost Gilliam, read about her on the Academic Affairs website and through the Ohio State News story about her selection.
Updated guidance for instructors
The classroom guidance to faculty and other instructors that we distributed last week has been updated to align with the university's indoor masking requirement, which President Johnson announced yesterday. As of yesterday, all students, faculty and staff are required to wear masks in classrooms and other shared indoor spaces.
The FAQs on classrooms are available on the teaching page of the Safe and Healthy Buckeyes website, which is constantly updated to provide up-to-date information about the university's response to COVID-19.
Please share these updates within your portion of the university community.
Vaccination reporting deadline is Thursday
All students, faculty and staff are required to report whether or not they have been vaccinated to the university by Thursday, Aug. 5. The university is collecting this information to inform decisions related to COVID-19 and to further enable contact tracing.
- Faculty and staff must report through the Employee Vaccination form — even if they were vaccinated through the Wexner Medical Center.
- Students must report through My BuckMD, the health portal operated by Student Health Services.
Individual personal health information will not be shared publicly or directly with instructors, managers or leaders.
Blackburn to become faculty ombudsperson
Congratulations to Mollie V. Blackburn, who will become Ohio State's faculty ombudsperson as of Aug. 15. In this role, she will act as a resource to faculty members, providing advice and support as they address issues and concerns related to their academic roles. We also thank Sally Rudmann, the existing faculty ombudsperson, for her many contributions to our faculty.
