Ryan Schmiesing, senior vice provost for external engagement, and Jason Reece, vice provost for urban research and community engagement, will discuss the current local and global engagement efforts as well as best practices in community and global engagement. The session will take place April 9 from 12-1:30 p.m.

P&T Training Session: Identifying and Reducing Barriers to Elevate Excellence
|
This session is designed for chairs and members of P&T committees, along with TIU chairs. However, all interested faculty are welcome. Participants will learn how to identify processes and best practices that help recognize impactful work from faculty across a broad range of contributions that further the mission of professional fields, the TIU and the university. Potential barriers to recognizing faculty contributions will be discussed along with practices that help mitigate them. This is a workshop-style session that encourages open discussions. The session will take place April 3 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Roads Scholars Day: Newark
|
Faculty and staff interested in engaged scholarship are invited to join the Office of Outreach Engagement on April 12 as we visit Ohio State's Newark campus and partnership sites in the area. On a charter bus with other faculty and university colleagues, you will visit community organizations and learn more about community engaged scholarship.

Limited Submission Opportunities

The Office of Foundation Relations manages the limited submission process for private foundation opportunities, which are listed on the Research Funding and Awards site.
Foundation Relations and Faculty Affairs are pleased to introduce a new limited submission process for privately funded faculty awards. We are implementing a concise fillable application form that integrates the proposal summary with key information selected from a PI’s CV. This standardized application form will allow us to streamline the review process, make it more equitable and align it with other internal processes around faculty recognition.

Patterson Lecture with Chancellor Donde Plowman April 18
|
Register now and plan to join Chancellor Donde Plowman from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville as she delivers the 2024 James F. Patterson Land-Grant University Lecture on April 18. The lecture brings to campus annually a prominent figure to speak to the range of challenges facing land-grant institutions. Seating is limited.

Applications due March 18 for the annual OSEP awards
|
In collaboration with Ohio State Energy Partners (OSEP), the Office of Academic Affairs has opened a call for grant proposals that align with the university's sustainability goals; align with advancing access, engagement and inclusive excellence goals; or provide research opportunities (in all disciplines) to students who have limited exposure to undergraduate research and experiential learning opportunities. Submissions are due March 18. Faculty, staff and students are eligible to apply. Awards range from $10,000 to $50,000.

"Spark" grants for arts engagement
|
Over the next three years, the Office of Outreach and Engagement will offer "Spark" grants, funded by the Mellon Foundation, to Ohio State faculty, students and staff for engagement projects that center the arts, especially projects done in partnership with communities served by our regional campuses. During this first year of the program, grants will be funded to a maximum of $25,000. Applications are due April 12.

Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad Fellowship
|
The Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad Fellowship Program supports faculty members seeking to improve their area studies and foreign language skills by conducting research abroad for periods of three to 12 months. The program is designed to contribute to the development and improvement of the study of modern foreign languages and area studies in the United States. The application deadline is April 16. All interested faculty must contact Joanna Kukielka-Blaser at kukielka-blaser.1@osu.edu to register interest.

The Office of Undergraduate Education, the Drake Institute and the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation are hosting a series of conversations and workshops to familiarize our university community with the way ePortfolios are being used in the GE and elsewhere on campus, introduce the pedagogy of folio thinking, and train instructors interested in building workbooks and assignments in PebblePad, Ohio State’s ePortfolio platform.

Register for the International Student Experience Workshop Series

Join the Office of International Affairs for the International Student Experience Workshop Series to learn more about what it’s like to be an international student at Ohio State. These free workshops include presentations by staff, as well as a panel of international students who will answer questions and share their experiences. Those who complete the three-part series will receive a training certificate from the Office of International Affairs.
