A statement from Provost McPheron on racial justice
The senseless deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor — along with countless others — have served as a terrible reminder about racial injustice. Thousands have taken to the streets of Columbus and cities around the world to call for change, and I hope that this is a moment where we will bend the arc of the moral universe toward justice.
We must demand better of ourselves and our communities. As a university dedicated to creating the future, Ohio State must be an agent of change in this moment - through our words and deeds.
Leaders throughout the university — students, faculty and staff — are lending your voices to issues of equity and justice, and I thank you for raising your voice.
Working together, we can turn our voices into action. We must collaborate to make our university the model of our highest ideals.
I have challenged myself and I repeat this challenge for all of us at Ohio State to live up to our motto, “education for citizenship.” Together as a committed, engaged university, we can and must change the world.
