Wexner Center Leadership Announcement

Dear Colleagues,

I am thrilled to share that internationally recognized art historian and arts administrator Gaëtane Verna will be the next executive director of the Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University. She will join the Wex on November 15 from The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto, where she has been director and artistic director since 2012.

Over her decade of leadership of The Power Plant, she has positioned the institution as a leading contemporary art gallery and cultural institution in Canada with international reach. With experience in elevating emerging, mid-career, and established artists, she invites communities to encounter thought-provoking art and ideas.

Prior to her time at The Power Plant, Gaëtane was executive director and chief curator of the Musée d’art de Joliette, one of Quebec’s largest art museums. She also served as curator of the Foreman Art Gallery at Bishop’s University, Sherbrooke, while teaching in the art history departments of Bishop’s University and the Université du Québec à Montréal.

Gaëtane will be a tremendous asset for our university and our arts community. She will be supported by the Wex's talented and dedicated staff who work every day to advance the institution's mission of fueling creative expression, igniting cultural curiosity, and offering unique experiences across all art forms.

I am grateful for the members of our search committee, which included Wex trustees, staff, community and university faculty. I had the privilege to co-chair the committee alongside Wex trustee David Aronowitz and Distinguished University Professor Emerita Ann Hamilton.

You can read more about Gaëtane’s impressive background and experience here.

I look forward to welcoming Gaëtane to Columbus this fall.

Sincerely,

Melissa L. Gilliam
