Integrating AI into education and research

  • AI FluencyOhio State is leading a bold, groundbreaking initiative to integrate artificial intelligence into the undergraduate educational experience. The initiative will ensure that every Ohio State student, beginning with the class of 2029, will graduate being AI fluent — fluent in their field of study, and fluent in the application of AI in that field. The Michael V. Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning offers multiple teaching and learning resources for faculty to build AI skills.
     
  • AI Faculty Hiring: This initiative will support the hiring of 100 new faculty over five years to sustain the AI Fluency initiative, expanding expertise across foundational, applied and responsible AI. These faculty members will strengthen Ohio State’s leadership in AI research and education, create a central hub for collaboration and equip students, faculty and staff to lead, collaborate and innovate with AI.

  • AI(X) HubOhio State is at the forefront of the AI transformation with the launch of the AI(X) Hub, or AI to the power of X. This university-wide hub will span 15 colleges and unlock the exponential possibilities that emerge when AI is fused with expertise across six strategic pillars — (X): foundations, health, engineering and sciences, agriculture, cybersecurity and trustworthy AI. The hub will be a catalyst for groundbreaking research and bold innovation in AI, empowering faculty, researchers and students to harness AI for the public good and develop solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.
     
  • AI Improving Ohioans' LivesBuilding on its broad effort to advance AI education and application, including beyond its campuses, Ohio State is empowering small business owners with the skills to use AI confidently and effectively. Two online, self-paced AI Pathway courses were launched to provide resources to help business owners use AI to address their individual needs — whether launching or growing a business, finding efficiencies or identifying new ideas.
