AI in the Disciplines
Join fellow Ohio State educators for a collaborative forum exploring how AI is being integrated authentically across disciplines, moving beyond efficiency gains toward deeper engagement with disciplinary content and practice. Throughout the event, attendees will hear from colleagues across the university and participate in hands-on activities around:
- Adapting AI Fluency outcomes: Translating Ohio State's university-wide AI Fluency outcomes to your disciplinary context and curriculum
- Disciplinary integration in action: How faculty across Ohio State are embedding AI meaningfully into their specific fields and courses
- Campus resources and connections: A showcase of support units and structured activities to help you identify who you need to move this work forward

9:10-9:40 a.m. — Adapting the university AI Fluency outcomes to disciplinary contexts

How do university-wide AI Fluency outcomes translate to disciplinary contexts? In this session, three colleges will share their process for adapting Ohio State's AI Fluency ELOs to their own disciplines. Presenters will discuss who was involved, how consensus was reached, opportunities and challenges that emerged, and lessons learned for units considering a similar process.
9:40-10 a.m. — Activity - Innovation by Design: Learning from Case Studies

Explore practical approaches to Ohio State's AI Fluency Expected Learning Outcome (ELO) 5. Through discipline-based case studies, participants will examine how students can design and justify innovative applications of AI within their fields without needing technical expertise or AI development experience.
10-10:10 a.m. — Shining a light on the value of disciplinary AI integration

10:10-10:45 a.m. — Meaningful Disciplinary Integration of AI
What does authentic AI integration look like in practice? Learn from faculty who have embedded AI into disciplinary teaching and learning in meaningful ways. Presenters will share course examples, instructional goals, lessons learned, and practical advice for designing AI-enabled learning experiences that align with disciplinary practices and student learning outcomes.
10:45-11 a.m. — Rethinking approach to assessment in AI and AI policies in an online general education course

When AI can produce polished answers, how do we design assessments that still reveal authentic learning? This session shares lessons learned and student feedback from the first offering of an asynchronous online GE course that piloted both an unrestricted AI use course policy and a new assessment framework focused on making student thinking visible. Attendees will explore how students engaged with AI, how the policy influenced their learning experience, and what assessment design principles helped generate authentic evidence of learning.
11-11:15 a.m. — Creating your AI Fluency Network Support Map
Facilitated by Michael Flierl, Associate Professor, Student Learning Librarian, and AI Faculty Fellow
No one will accomplish AI Fluency alone. This interactive session will help you build a visual map of the people, services, and resources across Ohio State who can enable you to achieve your AI Fluency goals.
11:15-12 p.m. — Resource showcase
Explore the growing ecosystem of AI-related resources and support available across Ohio State. Participants can connect with campus units, ask questions, and learn about services, tools, and programs that can help advance AI fluency efforts in their local contexts.
