Earlier this week, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill announced that James Orr will become its senior vice provost for undergraduate student success. As Ohio State’s vice provost for strategic enrollment management, James demonstrated an exceptional commitment to Ohio State’s students, and I congratulate him as he pursues his next exciting opportunity.
To help us navigate this leadership transition, I am pleased to share that Damon Jaggars, vice provost and dean of University Libraries, will serve as interim vice provost for strategic enrollment management, effective July 15 and pending approval by the Board of Trustees.
As many of you know, President Carter and I are dedicated to creating a signature student experience for all enrolled at Ohio State. It is a given that Strategic Enrollment Management is a critical component of our vision to be an accessible university that is dedicated to relentlessly pursuing academic excellence. I am confident that in his interim role, Damon will work closely with the leaders and colleagues throughout Strategic Enrollment Management, while fostering strong, collaborative partnerships across the university and within the Office of Academic Affairs. Strategic Enrollment Management is a vital function that ensures we attract and support the best and brightest minds in Ohio, as well as around the country and the globe, throughout the entirety of their academic journey onto graduation and success beyond. This is a shared endeavor across each of Ohio State’s campuses, and I look forward to ongoing leadership from Damon, the Strategic Enrollment Management team and partners across the university.
Damon has led University Libraries since 2016, and he will maintain that role throughout the transition. He holds a deep commitment to student success, and as an academic leader, he holds extensive experience that includes budgetary management, facilities planning and design, and organizational development. Damon previously provided interim leadership to our enrollment, undergraduate education and student academic success functions during the 2021-2022 academic year.
During the coming weeks, we will share details about a national search for our next leader of Strategic Enrollment Management. In the meantime, I again thank James for his dedication to our university, and I am deeply appreciative of Damon for his leadership during this period of transition.
