AI Fluency Forum brings Ohio State community together to brainstorm, solve problems
The AI Fluency Forum brought together Ohio State faculty, graduate teaching associates, postdoctoral researchers and staff at the Ohio Union. Throughout the event, faculty and staff made presentations and participated in panel discussions on teaching AI and its field applications, utilizing AI to enhance or optimize teaching and learning, and applying AI in research.
Ohio State, AI Fluency initiative featured on PBS News Hour
PBS News Hour covered Ohio State and the AI Fluency initiative as part of a story on how AI is rapidly reshaping the college experience for students and instructors alike. PBS spoke with Assistant Professor Tina Tallon (School of Music), Senior Lecturer Lori Kendall (Fisher College of Business) and their students on the novel, creative and ethical ways AI is being integrated into classes and research at Ohio State. Executive Vice President and Provost Ravi Bellamkonda also shared perspectives on how to approach AI in a human-centered way.

AI in the classroom Q&A: Steven Brown
“Even over the past couple of years, AI has improved dramatically," said Steven Brown, associate professor of teaching in the Department of Philosophy. "The kind of interactions that students had when I first started pale in comparison to what can be done now. Even I have been surprised by how rapidly things have improved."

Opportunities
Generative AI in Your Research Workshop
The Translational Data Analytics Institute is offering a new hands-on workshop series for Ohio State researchers, AI in Your Research, designed to help academic researchers integrate cutting-edge AI tools into their scholarly work. The first session is Generative AI in Your Research, which will take place Dec. 15-16.
The Geometrization of AI theme from the Translational Data Analytics Institute
The year-long theme of Geometrization of AI: Bridging the Gap Between Geometric Structures and Statistical Models aims to explore how geometric concepts, such as geodesics, curvature, symmetries and metrics are being used to shape the future of artificial intelligence and statistical learning.
New Incentive for the AI Fluency Teaching Endorsement
There is a new professional development incentive for earning the Teaching and Learning to Build AI Fluency teaching endorsement. This recently launched endorsement, which is open to all who teach and support instruction at Ohio State, helps educators understand AI and support students’ AI fluency through teaching.
Faculty and staff who earn the endorsement between December 2025 and August 2027 will be eligible to receive a $300 professional development incentive. Graduate students who earn the endorsement may be eligible for a transcript milestone recognizing their achievement.

Teaching support for AI Fluency
The Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning provides a range of resources and learning opportunities to build your knowledge and skills around AI Fluency. Available to all who teach at Ohio State, the offerings will guide you to make informed decisions about designing learning activities that incorporate AI, communicating transparent expectations for AI use and employing teaching strategies that promote students’ acquisition of AI knowledge and skills.
