NSF growing convergence research, Part 2: Facilitating Collaboration Workshop

Ohio State tackles opioid crisis from multiple angles
Fighting the opioid epidemic in Ohio, which has the second-highest rate of opioid overdose deaths in the United States, is considered by many health practitioners at The Ohio State University not just a professional responsibility, but also a moral imperative. Wexner Medical Center's Enhanced Recovery After Surgery program has reduced post-op opiate prescriptions between 27 percent and 60 percent across four specialties.

UITL grant supports tools for evaluating gains in intercultural awareness
Danielle V. Schoon, Near Eastern Languages and Cultures and Melinda McClimans, Middle East Studies Center, were awarded a $2,000 Research and Implementation Grant from the University Institute of Teaching and Learning (UITL) at The Ohio State University. The goal of the study is to make the intercultural learning experience more impactful for students, while also contributing to the fields of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), and ePortfolio Pedagogies and Practices.
Smart Campus Named Winner in Social Mobility Competition
The Smart Campus student organization was named the winner of “Moving Forward Together: Paving the Way for Social Mobility,” a competition to provide socially conscious groups and organizations with technology platforms and expertise for the advancement of social mobility. The competition was sponsored by Transitus, an Ohio-based 501(c)(3) organization focused on innovative solutions to improve access to food, healthcare, and job and workforce development for underserved populations and communities. Teams were tasked with proposing ideas on how to use Transitus technology platform for on-demand transportation and logistics of people, goods and services. The winning team receives full access to the platform as well as support from experts in technology architecture for the course of one year, valued at $150,000.
