The future of arts at Ohio State
Ohio State sees a future in which arts serve as a cornerstone for engaging with communities throughout Ohio. To bring that into practice, Art History Professor Lisa Florman was tapped to be the university’s first vice provost for the arts, a role she started in September 2022. Her work also will focus on broadly integrating arts into the curriculum, increasing interdepartmental collaboration and elevating the visibility of the arts across Ohio State’s campuses. The Ohio State Alumni Magazine recently spoke with her about the major themes of her new role so far.
Kirwan Institute’s 20th anniversary
The Kirwan Institute for Race and Ethnicity marked its 20th anniversary with a Sept. 29 symposium exploring the impact that the organization’s research has had on communities in Ohio and nationwide. The symposium also offered a glimpse at the institute’s future.
Melissa L. Gilliam to lead Boston University
The Ohio State University Executive Vice President and Provost Melissa L. Gilliam has been announced as the next president of Boston University. She will continue to serve as Ohio State’s chief academic officer through the end of the year, and will join Boston University as President-Elect on January 1, 2024.
