Writing Effective Assessment Questions: Multiple Choice Mayhem
This session on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., will help educators recognize high-quality, content-driven assessments and provide an opportunity to experience poorly written test items from the point of view of the test-taker. Learn multiple-choice question-writing "rules," such as including plausible distractors; recognize common test-item pitfalls, like convergence; and understand how smart test-takers use grammatical cues and distractor length to make educated guesses.Learn More and Register

The plenary session addresses Strategies for Successful Mentee-Driven Mentorship, by Mark Hall, MD, Nationwide Children’s Hospital. More than 150 researchers honored at faculty recognition program
Over the past year, faculty received a record-breaking number of prestigious national and international awards. To celebrate their achievements, the Office of the President and the Office of Research hosted a Faculty Recognition Reception on April 22, 2019, at the Faculty Club. Over 150 awardees were recognized throughout the evening.
Distinguished faculty award winners announced
The 2019 winners of the four distinguished faculty awards have been announced, including the recipients of the Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching, the Provost's Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer, the President and Provost's Award for Distinguished Faculty Service, and the Distinguished Scholar Award.
Ohio State Mansfield and FFAR launch $2 Million food system project
The Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR) awarded a matching grant to the Ohio State University at Mansfield to launch a $2 million dollar urban sustainable food system project that will increase access to fruits, vegetables and other specialty crops while supporting the local economy.
Fairchild selected as next dean of the College of Public Health
Amy Lauren Fairchild, PhD, MPH, has accepted an offer to serve as dean of the College of Public Health. She will begin her term July 1, 2019, pending Board of Trustees approval. She joins Ohio State after serving as Texas A&M's associate vice president for faculty and academic affairs in the Health Science Center and as a professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management.
Overhauled Gen Ed program to begin autumn 2021
The University Senate has overwhelmingly approved the first major overhaul of Ohio State’s General Education curriculum since its creation more than 30 years ago. The university will now begin working on detailed implementation plans so that the new GE program can launch in Autumn Semester 2021, providing a cohesive academic foundation for a generation of future Buckeyes.
