Writing Effective Assessment Questions: Multiple Choice Mayhem
This session on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., will help educators recognize high-quality, content-driven assessments and provide an opportunity to experience poorly written test items from the point of view of the test-taker. Learn multiple-choice question-writing "rules," such as including plausible distractors; recognize common test-item pitfalls, like convergence; and understand how smart test-takers use grammatical cues and distractor length to make educated guesses.Learn More and Register

This all-day training session on Friday, Sept. 27, 2019, is offered by the Center for Clinical and Translational Science. The plenary session addresses Strategies for Successful Mentee-Driven Mentorship, by Mark Hall, MD, Nationwide Children’s Hospital. I am pleased to share the news that Ryan J. Schmiesing, PhD, associate professor in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences and associate provost in the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) has accepted our offer to serve as the Vice Provost for Strategic Planning and Implementation. Subject to approval by the Board of Trustees, his appointment is effective on May 1, 2017.
Faculty, Alumnus Elected to American Academy of Arts and Sciences
This year, three Ohio State faculty and one alumnus were elected to the 237th class of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Those elected include Janet Box-Steffensmeier, political science; Russell Fazio, psychology; Geoffrey Parker, history; and Carter Phillips, law.
